Did you know:

Pablo Neruda was a supporter of the Communist Party. Due to the corrupt government of Chile during Pablo Neruda’s childhood, he would eventually adopt the ideals of Communism. His poems would frequently involve praising communist leaders at the time such as Stalin and Lenin.

He was exiled from Chile after the Chile Communist Party came under siege. As we know from the movie, after his exile Pablo Neruda lived in Italy. Pablo Neruda would eventually come back to Chile and actually had an opportunity to run for president. However, he did serve a senator of the communist party.

On record, Pablo Neruda died due to a heart complication, but he may have been poisoned. After his death in September of 1973, it was assumed that he died of heart failure. Only in the past 10 years did new reports come out that a doctor injected Pablo Neruda with an unauthorized medicine.
